His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet which stated that Doval's appointment is co-terminus with the term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi or until further order, whichever is earlier.
The government also reappointed seasoned bureaucrat PK Mishra as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Modi.
With the reappointment of both Doval and Dr Mishra, PM Modi has relied upon experience, stability and continuity. The two retired bureaucrats have also become the longest-serving principal advisors to the Prime Minister.
