HYDERABAD: In a dramatic sequence of events that unfolded within five hours on Friday, Telugu cinema superstar and national award-winning actor Allu Arjun was arrested, remanded to judicial custody, and subsequently granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court in connection with a fatal stampede during the premiere of his latest blockbuster "Pushpa 2: The Rule."
The incident, which occurred on December 4 at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre, resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and hospitalization of her eight-year-old son when thousands of fans rushed to catch a glimpse of the actor. The tragedy has sparked a political controversy and raised questions about crowd management at high-profile film events.
The arrest drama began when police arrived at Arjun's residence, leading to a tense moment captured on camera where the actor was seen arguing with officers who had entered his bedroom. "It is definitely not a good thing," Arjun was heard saying during the encounter. He was then taken to the Chikkadpally police station in a police vehicle, a development that sent shockwaves through his fanbase.
The case against Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint by the deceased woman's family.
