NEW DELHI: Rising vegetable prices drove retail inflation to a nine-month peak of 5.49 per cent in September, according to government data released on Monday.
In August, the consumer price index (CPI)-based inflation was at 3.65 per cent, while it stood at 5.02 per cent in September 2023. The last time inflation reached a higher level was in December 2023, when it hit 5.69 per cent.
Data from the National Statistics Office (NSO) shows that food basket inflation surged to 9.24 per cent in September, up from 5.66 per cent in August and 6.62 per cent in September of the previous year.
The NSO noted that the inflation increase in September 2024 was likely influenced by a high base effect and weather conditions.
