Chinese household appliances maker Haier Smart Home Co.'s Indian unit has attracted interest from local strategic players as well as foreign investors, two people aware of the development told VCCircle.
The Shanghai-listed company is evaluating options including the sale of a controlling stake in Haier Appliances (India) Pvt. Ltd, the people said, asking not to be identified.
The move comes at a time when the Indian government has increased its scrutiny of Chinese investments in the country, especially after a deadly border clash in 2020, and has been looking to boost local manufacturing. This has prompted many Chinese companies to seek Indian partners.
