Fillies impressed in Pinnacle
Last week saw the running of a Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m where a number of Betway Summer Cup contenders took their places and a number of them have now thrown their hats into the ring as major contenders for the big one.

The race was dominated by the fillies and Beating Wings won a really good race, showing her maturity from a three-year-old to a four-year-old as she was able to find the speed to win over 1600m.

This was impressive, but so was the run from Frances Ethel who finished second. She will be the ride of Oisin Murphy, the soon to be crowned UK Champion Jockey for the fourth time.

My ride last week, Silver Sanctuary, ran an absolute blinder from a bad draw and in need of the run, and she gave me a really good feel.

I believe she will be a massive runner in the big one. Another horse to note out of the race is Safe Passage, who comes well this time of the year, and he ran a lovely race with steel shoes.

Racing today takes place at Turffontein on the Inside track as well as Hollywoodbets Durbanville and we have another double header on offer for punters.

We will be focusing on the Turffontein card and the headliner is Race 5, a Middle Stakes over 2600m where certain horses taking their part will be using this as a final prep into all the staying feature races, starting on 2 November which is Charity Mile Day.

I have a total of seven rides on the eight-race card and I'll be hoping to continue the very good run I'm currently in after booting home another eight winners from the time last week's column went to print.

We are all now gearing up for Charity Mile Day which is a major feature race day on the South African calendar and all participating horses will be going through major parts of their preparation over the next week to 10 days.

I'm hoping to have a really strong hand on the day and I'm hoping all goes well over this period.
