We have now reached the part of the year, where the new season has kicked in, and we start to gear up for the Joburg Spring Season.
At the moment there are no feature races on offer and most of the outstanding horses are taking a break, but they will start their work shortly if they are aiming at our feature-race season.
What I will say is that for this time of the year, I'm very happy with the way the tracks are running in Gauteng, and while we acknowledge it has not been the coldest winter, it's still a job very well done by the track managers.
I have started the season nicely and have also started travelling to Port Elizabeth and I've enjoyed some good success already.
Long may it continue! Getting off racing for a moment, I have absolutely loved watching the Olympics and what an event it has been.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching sportsmen and women at the peak of their abilities and there is no other event that brings the best out in them. There have been a number of absolutely sensational performances.
Well done to all our South African athletes who have given their absolute best for our country, and they have made us proud.
Racing today takes place at Turffontein and there is a ninerace card to preview. The headliner on the card comes up in Race 7, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1160m.
This race is backed up by another Pinnacle Stakes (Race 6) over 1800m, so overall there is some quality on the card.
I have a full book of nine rides and I think I have some decent chances, so I'd like to once again thank all the trainers and owners for continuing to support me.
Before we move on to the meeting, I'd just like to wish all our readers and followers a very peaceful long weekend, and may it be a very successful one for all.
We will do everything we can to guide you all in the right direction.
