The Congress Party has expelled its leader Chitra Sarwara for six years as she has rebelled against the party candidate and contesting the election as independent candidate from Ambala cantonment.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) issued an official letter announcing Sarwara's expulsion.

In the letter Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal stated that the decision was based on complaints from party workers and the official candidate in Ambala Cantonment who accused Sarwara of engaging in anti-party activities.
