NATYA VRIKSHA CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF GEETA CHANDRAN'S BHARATANATYAM LEGACY

Geeta Chandran's vision for Bharatanatyam is to see it evolve beyond traditional confines. She believes, “Dance, much like life, should not be limited by tradition; it must evolve and be reinterpreted through the artist's unique perspective.” Her ability to integrate classical techniques with contemporary themes has defined her career, and “Pravahati” exemplifies this approach.

October 25th, 2024, marks a milestone in the illustrious career of Geeta Chandran, as she celebrates five decades of her journey in Bharatanatyam. Since her Arangetram at age 12, she has not only mesmerized audiences with her artistry but also contributed immensely as a guru, choreographer, and advocate for the classical dance form. To commemorate this occasion, Natya Vriksha, her dance institution, is organizing a two-day Bharatanatyam celebration on October 24th and 25th, 2024, at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi.

DAY 1: PRAVAHATI – THE FORWARD FORCE

The first evening, titled "Pravahati," will feature Geeta Chandran and the Natya Vriksha Dance Collective, showcasing her innovative choreography that merges traditional Bharatanatyam with contemporary expressions. "Pravahati," which translates to "the forward force," explores the dynamic, ever-evolving nature of the dance form, emphasizing its fluidity and timelessness.
