Tensions flared in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district on Monday after violent clashes during the Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahasi area led to the death of a 22-year-old man and left several others injured.
The unrest escalated following the fatal shooting of Ram Gopal Mishra during a communal clash over loudspeaker music on Sunday evening, prompting widespread protests and violence in the area.
The violence erupted in the Mahrajganj area of Mansoor village when disagreements over music played from loudspeakers during a Durga idol immersion procession led to a communal altercation. The clash soon turned violent, with incidents of stone-pelting and gunfire reported. Ram Gopal Mishra, who was part of the procession, was shot and later died in the hospital. Around six others were injured in the melee.
