To accelerate the pace of the Orange Gate-Marine Drive tunnel project, the state government has approved an interest-free secondary loan of Rs 1,354.66 crore to the MMRDA. From this, the MMRDA will pay Rs 614.44 crore as state tax, Rs 307.22 crore for half the amount of Central tax and Rs 433 crore for land acquisition. The total cost of the project is Rs 9,158 crore.
Work on the Thane Ring Metro Rail project will also be stepped up, with a revised Rs 12,220-crore plan for it being approved at the cabinet meeting.
