Death of 10 elephants: Two forest officials suspended

Field director Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and deputy DFO have been suspended for dereliction of duty in the wake of deaths of 10 elephants.

The suspensions took place after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took review meeting of forest department on Sunday.

A high-level team has been sent by CM to the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (BTR) following the death of 10 elephants.

The team comprising Minister of State for Forest Pradeep Ahirwar, Additional Chief Secretary Ashok Baranwal and Head of Forest Force Aseem Shrivastava on Saturday visited the site inside the reserve where the jumbos died.

The CM was dissatisfied with the preliminary report of the forest department that the pachyderms died after consuming a lot of kodo millets.

Sources claimed that they had never heard of elephants dying after eating kodo millets.
