Israel and Hezbollah exchanged heavy fire into Sunday, with Israeli warplanes carrying out the most intense bombardment in almost a year of conflict across Lebanon's south and Hezbollah firing rockets deep into northern Israel.
Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets early Sunday across a wider and deeper area of northern Israel, with some landing near the city of Haifa, as Israel launched hundreds of strikes Lebanon. The sides appeared to be spiraling toward all-out war following months of escalating tensions.
The rocket barrage overnight was in response to an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Friday that killed at least 45 people, including one of Hezbollah's top leaders as well as women and children.
