Ration Scam unearthed, Department seeks FIR

In a major crackdown on corruption within the public distribution system, irregularities worth several lakhs have been uncovered in two government consumer stores in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh.

A surprise inspection conducted by the Food Department revealed that ration stocks worth Rs 42 lakh were missing, leading to a recommendation for filing an FIR against the store operators.

The investigation, triggered by a history of similar discrepancies during the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh, found that despite past recoveries from shopkeepers, store operators continue to engage in illegal practices, such as selling ration in the open market. The recent inspections targeted the Bajrang Primary Cooperative Consumer Store in Ward 85 Sant Namdev Nagar, Sarkanda, and the Sushma Primary Consumer Store in Ward 62 Shastri Nagar, Mukti Dham Chowk.
