During a campaign visit to a ceramics factory in the Midlands, the prime minister said he had been "out every day" and that the MPs he had spent time with were "working their socks off for their communities".
Steve Baker, a Northern Ireland minister, announced he was going ahead with his holiday this week since MPs had been led to believe the general election would be held in the autumn.
Asked whether campaigning was optional for MPs, Sunak said: "No. Our MPs, candidates are working their socks off across the country, actually. I've been out every day of this campaign, spending time with them. They're working really hard. And what they're talking to everyone about is the choice in this election it's very clear. We live in uncertain times, and those uncertain times call for a government prepared to take bold action, that has got a clear plan."
