Her strong record of challenging corruption, including in the UK overseas territories, is a signal of intent by the foreign secretary, David Lammy, that he intends the issue to be at the heart of his revamped Foreign Office.
He feels the Conservative government foolishly dropped the issue after David Cameron, an unexpected trailblazer in the area, was forced to resign as prime minister in 2016.
Lammy believes tackling corruption has resonance with the British public and in the global south.
