Abi Daly, who has autism, says she wants to show that the scheme is for everyone.
The 19-year-old is one of 35 Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Youth Ambassadors from all over the UK. Their role is to advocate for young people by sharing their expertise on key issues impacting them.
They will make young people’s voices heard by speaking at events, meeting key decision-makers in Parliament and beyond, and feeding into decisions to shape the direction of the DofE charity’s work. Abi says that she wants to encourage other young people with disabilities to achieve their DofE.
She recently won the Student of the Year Award at her college for her work around raising awareness of autism, and as a Youth Ambassador, she wants to ensure that the DofE is accessible for everyone.
Abi said: “As a Youth Ambassador, I want to show other people what it’s like to live with autism, and spread awareness about disability. I want to share the message that we can achieve the same things as everyone else; we may just need a bit of additional support to show what we are capable of.”
