Austin can't stop defeat for Bluebird

The best of Austin's tally was a 180, whilst team-mate Dan Hurley also brought the flames in the scoring phase with 11 tons.

Lewis Byrne led the way for the victors with ten tons, whilst his 99 checkout bettered a 97 by teammate Tommy Graham.

Mike Whatley heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than 15 times, but still found himself on the wrong end of a 7-4 scoreline as Cherry Tree A were downed by King Billy.

Whatley's team-mate, Paul Freeman, was also in decent nick with 13 ton-plusses, but their efforts couldn't curtail the form of the Devonport team.

Paul Goundry and Paul Gavican lit up proceedings for the away side with ten tons each, whilst the undoubted performance of the night came from Scott Cook.

Cook got the better of Whatley 3-1 in the individual phase with legs in 14, 16 and 12 giving him the platform to repel Whatley who nailed a leg in 18 in the defeat. Cook also showed his class with a 180 and a 17-darter during a 3-1 triumph that was one of four wins in the individual phase for his team.

Lee Hellings fired 14 scores of a ton or more for Octagon A, but still found himself on the wrong end of a derby loss to Tradesmans 8-3.

The victors' charge was led by Mike O'Brien, who fired two 100 checkouts on his way to 12 tons, whilst team-mate Simon Washington ended on ten scores of a ton or more.

Washington added two maximums to his tally, whilst Fred Goldsmith also heard '180' called twice for the successful home side.

Lee Agar showed his scoring prowess with 12 tons and ending on ten scores of a ton or more was Jaden Whitting in the dominant win for the reigning champions and overwhelming title favourites.
