Burns helps King Billy to victory over Grenville

KIERAN Burns’ 12 tons for King Billy in a 7-6 Plymouth and District Friday Darts League win at Grenville included a remarkable three maximums to give him 16 in just 18 outings this season.

Two of those maximums helped Burns (30.33) to a magnificent 33 dart 1001 leg that was the best of the match, but surprisingly not of the week across all fixtures played.

That honour went to leaders Tradesmans A who fired a 31-dart leg in a more than entertaining 9-4 win against Victory Inn, who had Glyn Wells contributing ten tons to the match.

The superb 1001 leg was completed in the trebles by Andy Waters, Mike O’Brien and Andrew Nation (32.29), the latter hitting a maximum in the process, whilst O’Brien was bang at it again in the individual phase.

O’Brien’s (29.44) singles saw him hear game shot called after just 34 darts over the same 1001 distance; a win that left Victory settling for the third best leg of the match after a 39-darter in the other trebles.

That was won by Glyn Wells, Nathan Beeney and Kevin Evans (25.67) in a respectable 13 completed visits; a combination outshot from Wells of 107 providing the point and the highest checkout of the night.

The Wells effort meant Waters’ 92 finish was only good enough for the second biggest of what was always going to be a competitive match between two talented outfits.

Simon Washington netted himself ten ton-plusses in a 13-0 whitewash victory over Mainstone that contained two maximums and a respectable checkout.

Mark Gavican fired a 180 for the defeated team, whilst Washington’s team-mates, Paul Barclay and Steve Jones, added a maximum and an 89 checkout respectively.
