DOZENS of people staged a protest against “crazy” plans to chop down trees at a Plymouth military base.
A group called Save the Lambhay Trees organised the demo, at the Regimental Training Wing building opposite the Royal Citadel, to oppose moves to fell seven “gorgeous” mature trees to make way for a new security fence.
Protesters carried banners saying “Move the fence makes more sense”, “I find this decision oh-fence-ive” and “please Plymouth can we start valuing our trees”. They are now hoping the Ministry of Defence (MoD) will change its mind and spare the trees, with protesters even considering writing to Luke Pollard MP – and even King Charles.
