CAPACITY at Dartmoor Prisoon has been reduced by almost 200 since the discovery of a radioactive gas.
As reported by The Herald, prisoners have been relocated from the Princetown jail as a “precautionary measure”, following the discovery of radon. It has now been confirmed that 180 cells at HMP Dartmoor have been closed and prisoners moved, after the gas was detected.
The capacity of the prison has been reduced by 184 places between last November and February this year, with official figures suggesting its total safe capacity is 640 inmates. In the same period until February, 194 prisoners have been moved out of the jail.
The dangerous gas was first detected in 2020, but the Ministry of Justice has said that measures were not put in place until 2022
