A PLYMOUTH man who studied for an electrical apprenticeship at Devonport is trying to reconnect with his fellow apprentices from 75 years ago.
Jim Lord, 90, lost contact with most of his colleagues upon completing the apprenticeship in 1952.
His apprenticeship began on September 22, 1947, and Jim is looking to make contact with surviving friends. Having been one of the youngest on the course, he said the others must be at least his age, if not older.
"Once everybody finished their apprenticeship, they all went different ways. Several people went into the Merchant Navy because they didn't want National Service. When others finished their National Service, some of them didn't come back to the Admiralty - so they all disappeared."
"Apart from two people, I've lost track of everybody on there,” Jim said, pointing to a list of names. The list is taken from a Western Morning News article from 1947, noting the candidates who successfully passed the dockyard entrance exam that year.
