Father and son make a perfect start to Winter League season
The Herald|October 17, 2024
THIS week saw the start of the Men’s and Ladies Divisions in the RBC Brewin Dolphin MLTC Winter League, although the rain had other ideas and stopped play for most of the Ladies matches with only one pair managing to play on Monday and only a few on Tuesday.

Father and son make a perfect start to Winter League season

In Men’s B we have two new father and son pairings enjoying their first matches in the winter league. Brian and Jack Morgan enjoyed a really close and enjoyable first match of the season against Andrew Regan and Pete Ireland. Despite dropping the first set, they managed to pull back and won overall 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Another father and son pairing, Vince and Connor Keep, also enjoyed their first win of the winter league against Roger Wratten and Roy Barraclough 6-5, 6-2, 3-6.

Two new pairs to the winter league, from Plympton, clashed in a highly competitive first match of the winter league with Lewis Edwards and Richard Cooper taking the win 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 over Miki Booth and Kevin Wilkins.

Dominic Sivewright and Alex Stephenson started their second season in Men’s B Winter League strongly when they took on Lee Horton and Jon Jacobs. Lee played some excellent winning shots throughout the match, but it was Dom and Alex who came out on top winning 6-1, 6-0, 6-4.

Chris Pearce and Darren Courtnell played John Putman and sub Simon Dusting and after a close first set Chris and Darren pulled away to win 6-5, 6-3, 6-1.

In Men’s A, Tom Pantling and Sam Williams enjoyed some great games of tennis when they played last year’s Men’s B winners, Arash Dinari and Lawrence Hay.

Swirling winds combined with Tom’s ridiculous angled volleys meant that Tom and Sam ran out 6-0, 6-1, 6-5 winners in an enjoyable game with far closer games than the score suggests.
