Five-star Lambs up and running with first victory

TAVISTOCK manager Stuart Henderson was delighted his players picked up their first Southern League Division One South win of the season by beating Cribbs in a nine-goal thriller on Wednesday night and he has called on his players to build on that success when they welcome Westbury United to Langsford Park tomorrow.

In a match that had virtually everything, Tavi edged it by the odd goal with young striker Jacob Bowker scoring twice, Alex Battle scoring twice and Liam Prynn notching his first goal of the season.

It could have been more for Tavi, who need to tighten up defensively, but Henderson was not too critical with Tavi notching their first league win at the fifth attempt.

"I think we created more chances in that game than we have done in the previous two or three games put together, but I am pleased that the boys are playing the way I want them to," Henderson said. "There are clear messages from the management and coaching staff of how we want to play and whatever system you play - that comes with risk and rewards.

"I thought we played well, especially in the first half, down at Mousehole, but we stepped it up again last night and it was much more like us. Their goals we could have done better with but you have to give them credit. We could have done better in defensive areas, but it's just nice to get the three points, move up the table and get some confidence."

Commons showdown on call for grooming inquiry

MPs were due to vote on Kemi Badenoch's call for a national inquiry on grooming gangs last night after she warned that Sir Keir Starmer's refusal to back it would fuel concerns about a \"cover-up\". The Prime Minister hit out at the Tory leader over \"lies and misinformation and slinging of mud\" which did not help victims of child sexual abuse. He had urged Mrs Badenoch to drop her call which, if it succeeds, would derail a key piece of child protection legislation. But Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle confirmed it would be put to a vote, due to take place yesterday evening.
