THE Premier League and EFL have again been warned a deal will be imposed on them by an independent regulator if they cannot agree a new deal on funding and cost controls.
The Premier League is understood to be hopeful it will be able to present a new offer to the EFL at its next shareholders’ meeting on March 11, and Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said the Government wants football to come up with the solution itself.
However, she again warned that the intention was for the new regulator to be given ‘backstop’ powers to intervene in the event of no deal being reached.
