A FORMER Plymouth student has said his time in the British Army has ‘transformed’ him from a partying youngster to a disciplined man who has travelled the world and has helped youngsters in his home country.
Sergeant Sada ‘Maxi’ Sumareh, originally lived in Churchill’s Town, Gambia, but moved to Plymouth when he was 19 to live with his brother, Jamal, and get an education at Eggbuckland College.
He said: “I came to Plymouth from Gambia when I finished high school there. I came over to study at a higher level and to live with my brother. My godfather was John Birnie, but he sadly passed away last year.
“I was at Eggbuckland College when [Olympic diver] Tom Daley was at the school – I remember him being a kid back then at the school and we’d see him walking about.”
