EDWARDS FEELS COACH DID NOT FIT WITH ARGYLE'S CULTURE

CAPTAIN Joe Edwards did not think Ian Foster was the right fit as head coach for Plymouth Argyle, a club which he believes is quite unique in certain ways.

A run of eight defeats in 11 Championship matches led to the dismissal of Foster after just 87 days in his role with the Pilgrims on Easter Monday, and Edwards admitted that had affected the players' confidence and the atmosphere around Home Park.

Now, however, spirits have soared after the vital 1-0 victory over Rotherham United on Friday, in the first match with Neil Dewsnip and Kevin Nancekivell in temporary charge for a second spell this season, and the aim is to build on that over the final five games of the season and ensure Argyle avoid relegation.

Edwards was asked why it had not worked out for Foster at the club ahead of last night's game against Queens Park Rangers at Home Park.

He said: "It's a hard question to answer because every manager has a different style, every manager has a different personality and as players you have to adapt to different ways of doing things.

"I think sometimes Argyle is quite a unique club in a way and certain things you can do at other places you can't do here, or it just doesn't work as well here. Some of the thinking behind some stuff wasn't outrageous or anything like that, it just didn't quite fit what we are about here at Argyle.
