Whitsand Bay Hotel, in Portwrinkle, south-east Cornwall, had been on the market for years, having closed in late 2018. Plans were submitted to Cornwall Council to transform the hotel into 18 apartments, which were accepted.
The iconic Grade II building, which has most recently been used as a 32-bedroom hotel, was put on the market with Lang Town & Country and Knight Frank for a guide price of £3.5 million.
After months, a deal has now gone through and the hotel has been acquired for an undisclosed sevenfigure sum by the Matthews family, as part of a £6 million development project.
The husband-and-wife team, supported by their three sons, said they hope to restore the hotel to its former glory, inclusive of spa facilities, gym and swimming pool. In addition, seven houses (including three luxury detached homes) and a number of apartments will also be created on the two-acre site overlooking the sea.
