WAYNE Rooney has admitted it is ânot an easy momentâ for Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper because of the continuing transfer speculation about the 24-year-old.
Cooper was only on the bench for the crushing 4-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsboroughon Sunday as the Pilgrimsâ 2024/25 Championship campaign got off to a dreadful start, with Conor Hazard between the posts instead. Rooney stated his decision to select the Northern Ireland international had been based âon what I have seen in preseasonâ, but also reiterated he wanted Cooper to stay at Argyle because âheâs a fantastic goalkeeperâ.
Sheffield United have been strongly linked with Cooper, who is into the final year of his contract, but according to a report in one national newspaper on Sunday they have been âscared offâ by Argyleâs £6 million of valuation of the talented shot-stopper.
