New £5m hotel offers 'pinnacle' of hospitality

PLYMOUTH has a new £5m hotel inside one of the city’s most impressive buildings. The Fox on the Hoe is now taking bookings after a five-year transformation of the Grade II* listed Victorian townhouse on the Hoe.

The company behind Whimple Street’s Foxhouse Studios, and other apartments on the Barbican, has invested heavily to create high-class luxury hotel apartments, which can be booked for up to £850 a night. The Fox Hotel Group describes the opulent apartment hotel, at 4 Elliot Terrace, as being “perched majestically on Plymouth Hoe with panoramic vistas of Plymouth Sound”.

The family-run operation bought the building in 2018 for £1m and invested £4m into turning what was a run-down apartment block into ultra-luxurious hotel apartments.

Richard Vangunster, the general manager, said: “It’s taken five years to realize the dream. But we have got the best location and it’s on the cusp of Devon and Cornwall, this can be a base to explore the region.”

The Elliot Terrace building is an 1850s townhouse, which has four stories above a basement. It is next door to the Lord Mayor’s residence, gifted to the city by Nancy Astor.
