ROONEY SAYS ARGYLE MUST FIND A SOLUTION TO AWAY DAY BLUES
CHRIS ERRINGTON
Pilgrims doing all they can to arrest poor form

WAYNE Rooney has assured supporters that Plymouth Argyle are looking into every little detail to try to find answers to their alarming away results.

The Pilgrims have just one goal and one point from their five Championship matches on the road this season, going into their away game against Millwall tonight (7.45pm). When you add defeats away to Stoke City (3-0) and Millwall (1-0) at the end of last term their record looks even worse.

While Argyle have generally had an excellent record at Home Park since their promotion to the Championship in 2023, with 45 points picked up from 28 games, they have won just three times on their travels from the same number of matches - and two of those were during the short stint of Ian Foster as head coach, against Swansea City (1-0) and Middlesbrough (2-0).

Rooney, who took charge of the Pilgrims this summer, said: “There is no doubt about it we have to improve the away form. I think it would be naive of myself and us as coaches to think it’s going to be the same as home games, so we have to try to really figure it out as quick as we can.”

Two of Argyle’s four away Championship defeats this season were narrow ones, both 1-0 against West Bromwich Albion and Burnley, but they have also been thrashed 4-0 by Sheffield Wednesday in their opening game in August and 5-0 by Cardiff City on Saturday. The only point the Pilgrims have picked up came from a 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers when they played a lot of the game with only 10 men.

Argyle's away day woes continue with another heavy hammering

PLYMOUTH Argyle suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat by Norwich City at Carrow Road after a totally inept defensive display. Even by the low standards the Pilgrims have set on their travels in the Championship this season, which has seen them heavily beaten at Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City and Leeds United, this was an absolute shocker from Wayne Rooney's side.
