ONE of the things I first loved about Xbox Live Marketplace was the indie arcade gems you could discover there. Originally slipped in among the big studio titles, Microsoft realised there was an increasing appetite for indie offerings and created Xbox Live Indie Games, where smaller developers could release titles to an appreciative audience. It was here I first discovered Breath of Death VII: The Beginning. Set in a post-apocalyptic world this gem, which despite its name was a standalone title, perfectly parodied 16-bit Japanese role-playing games.
I wasn't the only person who fell in love with it, as it was soon one of the bestselling titles on the network.
As good as it was, I'm not lying when I say that I was surprised to see it making a reappearance on Steam last month.
Resurrected and remastered for the PC 14 years after its original release, I was intrigued to see if it was good as I remember it through the rose-tinted spectacles of nostalgia.
