Schumacher is ready to 'slug it out' with Ipswich

HAVING gone toe-to-toe with Ipswich Town for the League One title last season, Argyle boss Steven Schumacher said the two teams will be ready to slug it out again today when they meet in the Championship.

Schumacher’s Pilgrims edged out the Tractor Boys for the title last season, even as both sides won promotion.

But Ipswich have so far fared the better in the second tier, and sit second behind relegated Leicester City – who still boast a squad featuring some of their Premier League winners.

But there is a definite sense of respect – and even friendship – between Schumacher and Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna after their battles last season.

However, Schumacher has said his side will have to play well to get anything out of the clash at Portman Road today, despite the recent upturn in Argyle’s results.

He said: “They [Ipswich] are a completely different outfit – they are top of the league and absolutely flying at the moment.

“They have been one of the best teams to watch over the last two seasons, and were incredible to watch last year – some of the football that they played was outstanding last year and pushed us all the way.
