STRONG RESULTS AND SOME STANDOUT INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS
Students jump for joy at A-level successes

THERE were celebrations for some and hard decisions for others yesterday as A-level results were received by students across the country, which for many determines their next steps in education.

Students from schools and colleges in and around Plymouth were among the hundreds of thousands across the country to receive their results.

Nationally, the proportion of A-level entries awarded top grades is up on last year and remains above pre-pandemic levels.

More than a quarter (27.8%) of UK entries were awarded an A or A* grade, up by 0.6 percentage points on last year when 27.2% achieved the top grades.

This was also higher than in 2019 the last year that summer exams were taken before the pandemic when 25.4% of entries were awarded A or A* grades.

Overall, the proportion of UK entries awarded the top A" grade this year has risen by 0.4 percentage points to 9.3%, compared with 8.9% in 2023, and it is higher than when it stood at 7.7% in 2019.

Devonport High School for Girls said that 65% of all their A-level grades achieved were A*, A, or B, while more than 15% of our students awarded A/A* grades across the board.

Once again, these results mean that DHSG is one of the country's top mixed-sex state Sixth Forms for outcomes and is the highest performing in Plymouth and surrounding areas.

The school continues its high-achieving record of top university places and courses, with four students attending Oxford or Cambridge universities.

The stand-out performances this year were achieved by: Issy Adams, Ruth Bryce, Helia Eftekhari, Lily Entwhistle, Jahida Faruk, Katie Hambly, Grace Harrison, Isabelle Hutton, Ruby Jones, Niyara Limbu, Miao Lu, Lara Marshall-Roberts, Saphia Mwewa, Imogen Rickard, Rose Sutton, and Martha Wilson, who all obtained A* or A grades.
