THERE appears to be a lot of support among the Green Army for Steven Schumacher being reappointed as the Plymouth Argyle head coach after the departure of Wayne Rooney.
A lengthy Argyle board meeting on Monday night concluded with the decision to part ways with Rooney, who won just four of his 23 Championship games in charge.
Long-serving first team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards will lead the Argyle team for the New Year's Day game against Bristol City at Home Park, but attention among the fans has already turned to who will be the next head coach.
One possibility is 40-year-old Schumacher, Jak L who led the Pilgrims to the 2022/23 League One title with 101 points but then left for Championship rivals Stoke City in December 2023 in somewhat acrimonious circumstances.
Schumacher lost his job at Stoke only five games into this season and was replaced by Narcis Pelach, who was subsequently sacked on December 27. The 18th-placed Potters will host bottom-of-the-table Argyle at the Britannia Stadium this Saturday lunchtime.
