“I want to be involved in helping other people in my local community - and I know the difference food bank donations make to people at Christmas time,” says Gordon Taggart, 65, a warehouse assistant for FareShare who has volunteered for Tesco’s winter food collection for the last five years.
Rising living costs mean food banks are preparing for the toughest winter yet, expecting to deliver over one million emergency food parcels across the UK between December and February. That's one food parcel distributed every eight seconds.
"Working with the local Tesco stores is amazing," says Georgina
Arnold from Barnsley Foodbank Partnership.
"It's heartwarming to witness the community coming together to help those who can't afford the essentials.
Gordon and Georgina are two of many amazing people who volunteer for Tesco's winter food collection in the run-up to Christmas, with charities FareShare and the Trussell Trust.
Both charities are frank this winter, they need extra support to meet rising levels of need.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
By donating to Tesco's winter food collection the UK's biggest donation drive - you can support people in your community who are struggling to afford the essentials, and help them ensure their families have food this Christmas.
This year's food collection is taking place in all larger. Tesco stores between
November 30 and December 2, and in all Tesco Express stores from now until December 2.
Long-life foods like tins of meat, fish, soup, vegetables and fruit are the products most needed by food banks.
It's easy to donate - just pop them in the collection point on your way out of the shop.
