A COACHLOAD of 45 Plymouth Argyle fans had to endure a nightmare 17-hour return journey from the Championship match at Hull City on Saturday.
Those loyal members of the Green Army had set off from Home Park shortly after half-past-four in the morning to make the 340-mile trip to Humberside. It was the return trip after the Pilgrims’ 1-1 draw which they will never forget, though.
Two different coaches broke down, the first just a few miles after leaving the MKM Stadium in heavy rain. In total, they needed four different vehicles and seven drivers to get them back to Plymouth, via three service station stops through the evening and into the following morning.
They eventually arrived back at Home Park at 9.55am on Sunday. The fans will be fully refunded their fares and Argyle thanked those involved for their patience and understanding after what they called ‘a terrible experience for all’.
Gill Black, the steward of Coach One, said they had left at 4.34am on Saturday, around 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled departure time, because all the passengers had already taken their seats.
