AN elderly former Royal Marine from Plymouth has been left feeling let down after paying out over £9,000 for bathroom work at his home which he says is “disappointing”.
Alfred Plant says he hired Mobility Plus to convert his bathroom, but says he’s been left with a room ‘not fit for purpose’.
Mr Plant’s granddaughter Jenny Horton-Plant claims the bathroom is “unsafe” as there are sharp corners on each step, trip hazards into the shower and unreachable handrails.
But Mobility Plus insist they have offered to remedy the problems free of charge and say they take their “duty of care extremely seriously”. They have also said that “Mr Plant was fully involved in the design of his new bathroom”.
The company, which has been trading for 25 years, said Mr Plant was contacted by the office several times to check he was happy with the progress of the fit.
Mrs Horton-Plant said: “There has been no justification of the costs, it seems rather convenient that a breakdown of costs doesn’t have to be provided by the company once a signature is obtained. They have charged a tremendous amount for so little work.
“They just haven’t grasped the basic frailty needs for someone that has had a hip replacement with this design – the product is unsafe for him to use.
“For transparency purposes, we’d like to see a breakdown of the costs and how the company has arrived at the figure of £9,615 for the work.
