A PLYMOUTH scientist who was among those providing expert analysis at the recent Cop28 summit in Dubai said she was buoyed by engagement from delegates at this year’s talks – but believes governments must now deliver on promises.
Professor Helen Findlay was among five scientists from Plymouth Marine Laboratory who travelled to the United Arab Emirates to offer the latest scientific evidence on climate change.
Prof Findlay is a biological oceanographer who has been at PML for 17 years, and delivered work including the latest data on ocean acidification, which is a key evidentiary marker in levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.
She said there were encouraging signs that more change-makers were ready to listen and engage with scientific data, although described the final wording of the agreed Cop28 statement as a ‘mixed bag’.
