Whatley's masterclass helps his team to win

MIKE Whatley produced a masterclass of scoring prowess in Cherry Tree A's Monday Premier League defeat to Bluebird B by a 7-4 scoreline.

Whatley's 3-1 individual triumph was littered with a 115 checkout and an 18-dart leg that was only bettered by the Compton side's Dale Halford, who also helped himself to the only maximum of the evening.

Another ton-plus check-out came from Whatley's team-mate Matt Nicholson, who claimed a 107 that had to settle for third best of the contest, as Jamie Roberts nailed a 122 three-dart combination.

The top two clashed and, in spite of Paul Hendy's 13-ton haul for the defeated team, Tradesmans extended their unassailable lead at the top to 38 with a 7-4 win over Octagon A.

Paul Palmer supported Hendy well in an effort that turned out to be futile with a 12-ton personal tally, whilst the best scorer in the victors' roster was shared.

John Mann and Cornwall teammate Jaden Whitting both added 11 tons; the former adding to his total with a 124 checkout.

That Mann effort bettered a 107 combination out-shot from Alfie Ford in an individual phase which saw every single game littered with world class darting action.

Before that phase of play, Mann and team-mate Lee Agar (29.32) put together two legs of 601 in just 20 and 21 darts to claim a remarkable pairs average.

First up in the singles, Andrew Nation hit the only 180 in the match in a 3-1 defeat to Paul Palmer, who won thanks in part to a leg in 17.

Mann (31.98) posted the best average in a 3-0 demolition job that contained legs in 17, 15 and 15 before Ford checked a leg in 17 during a 3-2 loss to long-term sparing partner Fred Goldsmith.

Goldsmith found his way to victory with legs in 15 and 17 darts before Lee Hellings put the final 'W' onto the sheet for the defeated team with a 3-0 success that contain another leg in 17.
