They are protesting at the planned sale of The Observer to Tortoise Media. The journalists will mount a picket line outside their headquarters in London. The union said the strike coincides with The Observer – the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper – marking 233 years since it first began publication.
Tortoise Media was co-founded by James Harding, a former editor of The Times and BBC News executive. Its website says: “What’s different about us is slow news. We don’t do breaking news, but what’s driving the news. We don’t cover every story, but reveal a few.”
