Red alert (rainfall in excess of 20cm) has been issued for seven districts -- Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, and Puducherry for Saturday. The Met department has issued an orange alert on Saturday for Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam districts and Karaikal area in Puducherry. Officials said the rainfall activity would continue on Sunday in the interior districts as the cyclone storm would travel inland.
