Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced that the monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for freedom fighters who had been jailed will be doubled, while those who had not been imprisoned will get Rs 15,000 instead of the present Rs 9,000 per month.
He also stated that people who were detained under MISA during the emergency will be given Rs 20,000 per month. Freedom fighters who fought for independence and were imprisoned during British rule will now receive Rs 20,000 monthly as against the earlier pension of Rs 10,000 a month. Those who participated but were not imprisoned will have their pensions increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 15,000.
The freedom fighters who are already receiving the national pension will be paid an augmentation from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000.
