Jeeva cremated in his native village, wife does not attend

The last rites of the slain criminal Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva were performed at his native Adampur village in Shamli district under unprecedented security arrangements this afternoon.

A few relatives along with villagers were present during the funeral and cremation after the body reached the village from Lucknow. His widow, Payal, however, was absent.

Jeeva's children along with other relatives reached his ancestral village and were present at the cremation. His eldest son lit the pyre. Jeeva's sister and his four children including three sons and a daughter reached the village in the morning.

The entire Adampur village has turned into a fortress and outsiders were not allowed into Jeeva’s house.

Police allowed just 25 people to attend the cremation.

Earlier, Payal Maheshwari, Jeeva’s widow, moved the Supreme Court seeking relief from arrest to attend her husband's last rites.
