Notably, there were set rules, but no one enforced them and no one followed them. But after strict implementation of the rules, the economy has virtually collapsed at Panitanki area in Indian part.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today met around 1,200 local business men, shopkeepers, cross-border traders and members of Panitanki Byabsayee Samiti at the Panitanki Bazar on this issue.
After interacting with them Mr Bista has requested Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar to intervene.
“I am most hopeful that the issues concerning the Bhansar (Customs Duty ) will be amicably resolved at the earliest,” Mr Bista said.
