2023 winners of Seoul's Korea Cup, Sprint among Japanese squad to take on the locals
CROWN PRIDE, REMAKE EYE KOREA DOUBLE

The Korea Racing Authority's (KRA) international OBS Korea Cup (1,800m) and OBS Korea Sprint (1,200m) return to Seoul Racecourse on Sept 8, with both Group 3 races set to have their 2023 Japanese winners return to defend their crowns.

Crown Pride headlines the Cup while Remake will return to the Sprint with the added lure that both races carry Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" status for the first time, guaranteeing the respective winners a start for the 2024 World Championships at Del Mar, California, in November.

Crown Pride scored a comfortable win in the 2023 edition of the Korea Cup, ahead of compatriot Gloria Mundi and 2022 victor Winner's Man, but then went off the boil. He finished well back in the Saudi Cup (1,800m).

Ominously, he returned to winning ways in the Listed Mercury Cup (2,000m) at Morioka in July.

Takeshi Yokoyama is set to be in the saddle for the Koichi Shintanitrained defending champion, replacing 2023 winning partner Yuga Kawada.

This time around, “King” Kawada will be among those aiming to prevent a repeat as he partners the Hitoshi Kotegawa-trained Wilson Tesoro, a two-time Group 1 runnerup who ran fourth to Laurel River in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup (2,000m) in March.
