From a gun-toting Maoist convicted for the murder of a parliamentarian in Ongole to becoming a triple master's degree holder, 56-year-old PBV Ganesh, has taken a giant leap from guerrilla warfare to academic accomplishment. On Saturday, he was among 14 Cherlapally prison inmates, who received their master's degree at the 24th convocation ceremony of Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University in the city.
Ganesh, who was sentenced to life for gunning down then Ongole MP, Magunta Subbarami Reddy, in 1995, has been honoured with an MSc degree in psychology. He has already bagged two master's degrees in sociology and political science from the same varsity during his prison term.
"I just want to be with my family. If I am freed this year, I will pursue a doctorate in political science or psychology," said Ganesh, who was joined by his wife at the convocation ceremony. He was just a 27-year-old physics graduate, when he shot the MP and was later sentenced to life.
