Hijab row: Girl examinees create ruckus at Bihar college

Several hijab-wearing students, assisted by local youths, on Sunday created an uproar outside a women's college at Bihar's Muzaffarpur, about 72km from here, after a girl student was allegedly asked by a male teacher to take off her hijab (headscarf) during an examination.

The students alleged that the male teacher also made some objectionable remarks and asked the girls, "Why don't you go to Pakistan, if you like to wear hijab? You live 'here' but sing the song of 'there'."

Hundreds of Intermediate girl students, including some wearing hijab, reached the Mahant Darshan Das Mahila College to appear for the sent-up examination conducted on Sunday by the college administration on the advice of the Bihar School Examination Board. The students who clear the sent-up examination become eligible to appear in the final Intermediate examination.
