New Delhi: Winning four out of the seven assembly seats where bypolls took place and an improved performance in politically crucial Telangana comes as a boost for BJP ahead of the assembly polls in several states in the next few months followed by the general elections in 2024 when PM Modi will be vying for a third stint with poor friendly welfare schemes, development and national security as key poll planks.
TRS eventually prevailed at Munugode in Telangana and BJP’s loss, considering the fight that it put up, is going to rankle. But party tacticians are already seeing many positives in the outcome. After its victory in four Lok Sabha seats, in Huzurabad by-election and the elections for Hyderabad corporation when it gave TRS a real scare, the result confirms tthe party's rising graph in the state and its success in elbowing Congress out of the arena. The party will be justified in viewing itself as the chief potential beneficiary of anti-incumbency that chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has accumulated, and being in a better position for the Lok Sabha candidates when PM Narendra Modi would himself be in the fray.
