Mumbai: A special court on Thursday acquitted underworld don Chhota Rajan and three others accused in a 2009 shootout at Nagpada in which two persons were killed and two others injured.

Pronouncing the order, the judge said that the prosecution’s case was not proved beyond reasonable doubt. Finding the accused not guilty of the offences under the Arms Act and Indian Penal Code, the court also cited the delay in conducting the identification parade of the accused by key witnesses.

Lodged in Tihar jail, Rajan is serving a life sentence in the 2011 murder of journalist J Dey. This is among the 71 pending cases against Rajan that were transferred to the CBI after he was extradited from Bali in 2015. He was produced via video conferencing for the hearing.
