Daily cases of Covid-19 in India were set to cross the 10,000 mark on Wednesday, a first in 109 days since February 26, on the back of a spike in detected infections in many states across the country. By late night, India had reported 8,641 fresh cases of the virus on Wednesday, with data from a few states awaited. Among these states was Kerala, which had reported 1,950 or more cases on each of the last seven days. On Tuesday, 8,828 fresh cases were recorded in the country, as per TOI's Covid database.
In the south, Karnataka reported 648 new cases, highest in the state since February 23, while Tamil Nadu's tally jumped by 43% in a day from 332 to 476, the highest logged by the state since February 26.
